You have all, quite possibly, heard about or read about or even seen one of those messages in a bottle. You know those Robinson Crusoe types of messages.... where if you are stranded on a lonely island you find empty bottles and put notes in them, seal them and put them out to sea at different times of the day.
Why different times of the day? Different tides and currents means that it could potentially reach different shores.
Some years ago, some school children had reportedly tried it and asked people who pick their messages up on the beach to write back. Apparently, some of the bottles had traveled across oceans, connecting people continents apart.
Today, one post on Twitter could do that.
But the trick is to get people to want to connect with you on Twitter or on other media.
And how do we do that?
There are people who teach you how, for a few hundred dollars.
But some of the basics hold good no matter whether it is a bottle or Twitter feed. Once you have a topic that would be of interest to people:
- Speak in the language of your intended audience
- Use fewer words
- Edit content for clarity
- Choose a medium that would reach your intended audience at no additional cost.
Any of you Twitterers out there? What are your experiences? Please do share it with us.
See you all next week!
